Mental Health Skillbuilding  (MHSS)

Mental Health Skill-building Services (MHSS) are goal-directed training and support interventions that help individuals with mental health conditions:

  • Improve or restore the ability to function independently in daily life;

  • Maintain stability in the least restrictive environment; and

  • Develop practical skills for managing psychiatric symptoms and for community living.

  • MHSS is not a traditional outpatient therapy; it focuses on skills and functional supports rather than talk therapy alone.

Key Components of MHSS

  • Symptom management and emotional regulation

  • Medication adherence and self-management

  • Personal care and hygiene routines

  • Food preparation and nutrition

  • Money management and budgeting

  • Use of community resources and transportation

  • Social skills and building natural supports
